NEGOCIATIONS ON BILATERAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN ARGENTINA - BRAZIL

The Argentine Automotive Industry reviewed the progress made towards a new agreement at the negotiation table leading to establish a new set of rules for the medium and long term to govern the bilateral commerce for the next five years.
After a day of negotiations led by the Argentine Secretary of Industry, Fernando Fraguío, and his Brazilian counterpart Iván Ramalho, an agreement was reached which according to ADEFA’s Executive Director, Fernando Rodríguez Canedo, will assure the sector “foreseeability”, a major advantage highlighted on in his speech.

Mr. Canedo emphasized the importance of the new “flex” relation factor which will favor Argentina in the bilateral interchange of spare parts and finished units, and he asserted “create conditions which encourage investment and open doors to the regional market, but more specifically to the Brazilian market”

To that respect, Mr. Canedo added, “domestically this development will be supported by the norms governing the ‘Régimen de Fortalecimiento del Autopartismo Argentino’, including the bill of law recently sent by the Execute Power to the National Parliament, and the financing from Banco Nación already lined up for the sector.”

ADEFA’s Executive Director also pointed out to the need for monitoring “which will enable us to take the necessary measures to ensure full compliance” and was very positive when he announced that from now on and into the year 2013 with these favorable conditions “the domestic industry will successfully meet its increasing production goals, and thus strengthen the sector.”

Lastly, he declared that the agreement reached by the two countries should focus on “an harmonic development of the regional industry, for both makers and providers” and on “strengthening competitive standards to fortify the sector and conquer new markets.”

VALUE CHAIN REPRESENTATIVES HAD A PRIVATE AUDIENCE WITH THE PRESIDENT
Agreement with Brazil and development of the auto part sector

In an audience held last Thursday, June 5 at the Situación room in the Casa Rosada, the President of the Republic, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, received several directors of the Automotive Industry with car plants in Argentina, and authorities from ADEFA, together with their suppliers represented by AFAC and ADIMRA.-

Other participants at the audience were the Minister of Economy, Carlos Fernández, and the Secretary of Industry and Foreign

Affairs, Fernando Fraguío.-

The subject matter at the meeting was the discussion of two key issues for the future of the industry, namely the Bill of Law which contemplates incentives for the development of the auto part sector, and the scope of the agreement recently signed with Brazil valid through the year 2013.-

The representatives of the car terminals evaluated both the initiative and the agreement, and agreed in the fact that they are valuable instruments which will assure “foreseeability” in developing current and future investment programs, helping meet the needs of the domestic and foreign markets, and favoring the development of a supplier network, while increasing competitiveness in the whole value chain.

It was also pointed out that if these conditions persist in the future, including the macro conditions which assure competitiveness and help keep a steady domestic demand, by the end of 2013 the Argentine Automotive Industry will be within the first 20 in the world, surpassing a production of a million units, and giving employment to over 200.000 people.
