The Association of Automotive Makers (ADEFA) comprises ten auto assembly plants which manufacture automobiles, light and heavy commercial vehicles and buses in Argentina. Its members are: DaimlerChrysler Argentina S.A., Fiat Auto Argentina S.A., Ford Argentina S.C.A., General Motors Argentina S.R.L., Iveco Argentina S.A., PSA Peugeot Citroën Argentina S.A., Renault Argentina S.A., Scania Argentina S.A., Toyota Argentina S.A. and Volkswagen Argentina S.A.
ADEFA was founded on September 29 th, 1961 for the purpose of fostering investment in the automotive sector, boosting local production of vehicles and promoting the industry entrepreneurship and competitiveness.
Of particular importance among the numerous activities carried out by ADEFA are those intended to promote the specialization of the automotive sector and a complementary symmetric system within the MERCOSUR. Being this an important key role, ADEFA is taking an active part in achieving it.
Furthermore, ADEFA permanently seeks market penetration of vehicles made in Argentina- currently marketed in over 80 countries.
Moreover, ADEFA periodically elaborates and publishes statistics on automotive vehicle production, sales and exports. As a service to the Argentine consumer ADEFA, together with AMC Promotion –France, organizes the International Motor Show, hosted in Buenos Aires, where car makers from all over the world display vehicles made in Argentina, MERCOSUR, or those imported by ADEFA’s associate members and other makers.
Among the Corporate Social responsibility actions carried out by the Association stand out those related to Road Safetyness.
On that matter, during the Motor Show hosted in Buenos Aires every two years, ADEFA carry out actions to increase awareness of responsible driving and traffic law compliance. During the IV Motor Show, held in June 2007, 20 thousand people took part in a contest titled “Road Challenge”. At the interactive information stands located at the venue, visitors could answer questions on Road Safetyness, entitling them to a prize on the spot depending on the amount of correct answers.
Moreover, static billboards displaying suggestions for safer and more responsible driving were placed at the venue. In addition, lot drawing for “ADEFA rewards Responsible Driving” took place, entitling one lucky grand prize winner to a trip for two to the International Motor Show in Frankfort. The contest had been held during the summer 2006/2007, on Buenos Aires Province routs where 1.5 million flyers containing responsible driving guidelines were handed out.
Following its Social Responsibility Program, ADEFA has been supporting UNICEF Argentina in developing programs to help assist minors at stake. During the years 2005 and 2006, the Association implemented the “Brand New Smiles” campaign, which allowed ADEFA to raise funds coming from every new car sold in Argentina marketed by any of its 10 associate members.
During 2007 ADEFA celebrated the grand opening of the IV Motor Show in Buenos Aires in honor of UNICEF, where on behalf of its associate members made a contribution of $ 150.000 specifically allocated to help the most needed children in the country.
Among other CSR actions, and as a contribution to the National and Provincial authorities fight against car theft and murder related to it, the Association has been running campaigns to raise awareness of the need for purchasing legal spare parts.
